The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. We provide a 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service around the coasts of the UK and RoI, as well as a seasonal lifeguard service on many of the busiest beaches in England and Wales. Volunteers are the heart of the RNLI. We rely on more than 40,000 volunteers - on lifeboats, at stations, on beaches, and in fundraising. Some crew members and most lifeguards are full time. They work with other staff to ensure comprehensive safety coverage around our islands. The RNLI is an independent charity with a board of volunteer trustees. ▼

John was a wise, generous, loyal and kind friend as I very quickly discovered after we first met on 1 October 1970. For decades he, I and several other friends enjoyed each other's company at an annual event in Dececmber and ocaasionally at other times, and we will all miss him enormously.
In memory of a fellow SF Fan of over 40 years. We will always fondly remember catching up at sci-fi conventions, gathering at friends' houses, and sharing a glass or two over the decades. A quiet toast to a long acquaintance and a life well-lived.
A dear friend, the Billygoats dinners won't be the same without you.
One of the best, a good friend, he will be missed.
