Sir Bobby launched his Foundation in 2008 after a request for help from his oncologist Professor Ruth Plummer. The Foundation funds projects within the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that directly benefit cancer patients from across north east England and Cumbria – and which also contribute significantly to international research into the disease. ▼

How very glad we are that you have been in our lives, Bill. You and Sheila gave me accommodation at Montague Avenue when I came up from the NW in 1972 to study Physiotherapy. We continued with and benefitted from the friendship ever since. Dear "Old Father William" - "less of the old " you would retort.
